What I've Been Readin'

For today's post, we'll be looking over what I have read in the past two weeks. Not to bore you with an explanation of what I have been doing (you can read that at my blog, here), I will just get right to it. :-)

Book of Days: A NovelBook of Days by James Rubert was the first book I finished after my last post, two weeks ago. It was a really neat read - one to make you stop and think - and I enjoyed every minute. It reminded me, in some ways, of a Peretti book (one of my favorite authors!). I've written a review for this book, which you can find HERE.

Making Waves: A Novel (Lake Manawa Summers)Making Waves by Lorna Stelstaid. was the next book I picked up, which Kait graciously let me borrow the last time she was here. It was such a fun read! I found myself chuckling and smirking at the light-heartedness of the story. It really grabs your attention from the getgo and carries you through the book. I really should use the book in one of Book Pondering's book beginnings on Friday - it has a comical beginning! :-P

My Son, JohnThe next book I grabbed was a thin one called My Son, John by Kathi Macias. I have read Kathi's Extreme Devotion series, and loved them...but sadly, was really dissapointed in this book. I kept expecting a curve-ball to be thrown into the murder. But the expected curve-ball never came. When I reached the end...I was just really dissapointed and kind of depressed, even. But, you can draw your own conclusions about this book - maybe it was just me. :-)

In the Shadow of EvilOut of my TBR pile I grabbed Robin Caroll's new book, In the Shadow of Evil. Wow! That was really good! I was instantly wrapped up in the murder and complex mystrey. Layla was a neat character to get to know - I enjoyed reading her story. The ending had a great twist to it that left the readering reeling. Just the kind of book I enjoy! My review can be found HERE.

Seek Me with All Your Heart (A Land of Canaan Series)I haven't read many Amish books, but the cover of Seek Me With All Your Heart was SO pretty, I had to get it. :-P lol Inside, the story of Emily and David is just as sweet. My review can be found HERE. Reading their story of healing and learning to love, I was left with sweet thoughts and looking forward to Beth Wisemen's next book in the Land of Canaan series.

Deadly Ties: A Novel (Crossroads Crisis Center)I hadn't read a book by Vicki Hinze before, so didn't know what to expect when I picked up Deadly Ties. I can tell you, I was NOT dissapointed! Wow! What an adventure! I don't know how to tell you all the fast-action, suspenseful, wonderful parts or about all the awesome characters, but go HERE and you can read my review. I don't want to say too much and give this wonderful story away!

All I'll Ever Need (Claire McCall, Book 3)All I'll Ever Need was a neat book. The first one I've read by doctor and author Harry Kraus, it had a really neat mystery. I love the ones that leave you so confused and stumped that you are glued to the pages, wondering how the hero and heroine can ever get out of such a fix! That's exactly how I felt with this book! Shortly after reaching the halfway mark, I could NOT put this book down! My review can be found HERE.

Where the Truth Lies: Massachusetts Mayhem Mystery Series #1 (Heartsong Presents Mysteries #16)Elizabeth Ludwig and Janelle Mowery wrote the first book in a series together entitled Where the Truth Lies. It was a great mystery! Casey was such a humorous character! I laughed over her Post-It notes! If you want to read more about this book and what adventures you will find inside - you can read my review of it HERE.

The Voyage of Promise - Grace in Africa series #2Lastly, I just finished up reading The Voyage of Promise by Kay Strom last night. I've already posted a review of it, which you can read HERE. The book was touching and I couldn't help feeling Grace's loss throughout the book. The horror's of the slave trade and what Africans had to endure on a slaveship was aweful. While it was sad to see how deprave some human's can me, it was also an eye opener - this is part of our history. It really did happen. I recommend you get this book! :-)

Hmmm...maybe I should try reading the Book of Days by James Rubert. I really like Peretti so...

One question: Is this book have some good scares in it like a Peretti or Dekker book has?

Isaac - No, not really. Nothing scary, not like Oath.

I said it reminded me of a Peretti because of the storyline - Cameron is looking for a book with the past, present, and future of everyone who has lived or ever will live. Which is made up and unbelievable to really think there would be a book like that on earth.

I don't want to spoil the ending, but while it wasn't an actual book, it was still nonrealistic. So...thus why I say it is a Peretti.

Was that confusing?? lol! So sorry if it was. Let me know and I can explain more fully. :-) But, even though it isn't like a Peretti/Dekker in that respect, I think you'd like it. I've heard Rubert's first book, Rooms, is equally good, but I haven't read it yet.

Katy- OK, thanks. Ya, I might try it sometime. I really like the Christian Thrillers but this sounds like it might be good too.
Thanks! And it wasn't all that confusing what you said--just a wee bit! lol!
Thanks!

Sorry about that, Isaac - I can ramble on a lot! :-P
Yes, it was somewhat of a thriller, tho I enjoyed the mystery in it and discovering all the character's past. :-)
Have you read all of Peretti's books? Dekker? The last Dekker I read was ADAM and if you want something scary to read - read ADAM! :-P lol

Isaac - If you like Peretti, than I think you'd like Dekker for sure! Katy prefers Peretti over Dekker, but I think she's crazy. ;) He's amazing! From the one's I've read, Skin is Dekker's most suspense/thriller-ey. lol

Another one to check out is Chuck Black. While he isn't a thriller author, he has some great fantasy books that are loosely based on Biblical events. They're really good, so if you like Fantasy that's one to try!

Thanks for stopping by!

Hmmm...
Katy- I haven't read all of Peretti's books, but a lot. My parents aren't so much into this thriller genre like i'm in! :P And the only Dekker books I've read are Chosen and Three.
Maybe i'll check out Adam after Book of days... :)

Kait or Jane or whoever- Yes, I've read all of Black's books. They are great and I can't wait until he puts them into movies like he is planning to do. Oh, and I'll check out Skin after Book of Days and Adam! haha!

Thank you guys (or gals, would be more like it) for you help! Very much appreciated.

Oh okay, cool. Have you read Peretti's teen series, Hangman's Curse and Nightmare Academy? Those are really good too. :-)

Yes, Adam was neat! Below is my review of the book, if you're curious. I liked it - it was pretty creepy! lol

I have read the first chapter of Hangman's Curse (on Amazon, if thats the one that starts out with a american football game) And I thought it was a great first chapter... might have to get the whole book though at some point.
My to-read list is getting bigger by the day...haha! I don't read A LOT because I don't really have the time or else I would be reading every book I could get my hands on. lol.
Thanks!

Ya, the beginning is great and it continues to get better from there! They made a movie based on the book, but I don't think it's half as good as the book. :-) lol

I know whatcha mean! I go through spurts where I have lotsa time to read...and then some times when I just don't! :-)
