Book Beginnings - Eragon

Now on to today's post. It's Friday, so here is my Book Beginnings on FridayKaty, over at A Few More Pages, hosts this every Friday and we thought it'd be fun to haveBook Ponderings join the fun! If you are interested in doing this for your blog, check out Katy's blog for details on what to include in the post!

I haven't read this book in a while but it is one of my favorites. A teenger himself when he published his first novel, Christopher Paolini was one of my greatest sources of inspiration. Though I wouldn't expect a lot of our readers to appreciate fantasy, this is a clean, very enjoyable book that many teenagers would find pleasureable to read.. From the very first sentence you are tugged into Eragon's world...

Wind howled through the night, carrying a scent that would change the world. A tall Shade lifted his head and sniffed the air. He looked human except for his crimson hair and maroon eyes.

He blinked in surprise. The message had been correct: they were here. Or was it a trap?

Doesn't that just leave you wondering what is going on? What is coming in the next sentence? Who is this Shade? Is he a good guy or a bad guy? And is this a trap as considered?
All this is answered in the pages following, diving you deeper into the mystical land of Alagaesia.

We'd love to hear what's the first line - or paragraph - of your current read. Feel free to share it with us in the comments! Are you liking the book so far? Was the first few lines enough to grip your attention? We're looking forward to hearing from you! :-)

I've never read the book and only seen parts of the movie. Sounds like a great one. :O)
