Book Discussion - The Preacher's Daughter

This week I am going to be basing my discussion off of the book The Preacher's Daughter by Beverly Lewis.
In the book, Annie goes against her father's orders and pursues a hobby that contradicts her beliefs.

"Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old."
Proverbs 23:22

Annie put her own desires above her father's instructions. She didn't acknowledge that her father had many years on her and wanted what was best for her.  This is a common problem in the majority of teenager's lives these days. The lack of reasonable judgement in teenagers is why many parents make many of their rules for their kids.
"No, you can't go to that party." may be a parents way of saying "The kids that are going to that party are not good examples and it is not wise to associate with them in such a setting.".

What Annie should have realized is that God demands that we honor our parents and obey them, whether we agree with their rules or not.

Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord.
Colossians 3:20

God calls us to obey our parents in everything and to honor them.  We can't do that by sneaking behind their backs, lie, give them bad attitudes, etc. We should make it our daily goal to honor God by honoring our parents. Not only will it please God, but it will strengthen relationships with out parents. They will have respect for us and will be more trustworthy.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. “Honor your father and mother” (this is the first commandment with a promise), “that it may go well with you and that you may live long in the land.”
Ephesians 6:1-3
