Past the halfway mark already! ;-)
In the well-known song, 12 Days of Christmas, we are looking at each verse and explaining what each item named represents! So for today, we are looking at the fourth verse…
On the seventh day of Christmas,
My true love sent to me
Seven swan a-swimming,
Six geese a-laying,
FIVE GOLDEN RINGS
Four calling birds,
Three French hens,
Two turtledoves,
And a partridge in a pear tree
As we have already discussed, we are the ones singing it, telling what our true love – God – gave to us. The partridge in a pear tree represented Christ, the two turtledoves represented the Old and New Testaments, the three French hens represent the theological virtues, the four calling birds symbolize the four gospels, the five golden rings are the first five books in the Old Testament (the histories), and the six geese a-laying represent the 6 days of creation!
Now for the seventh verse! :-) There are seven swan swimming! These swans symbolize the seven gifts of the Hold Spirit (Prophecy, Ministry, Teaching, Exhortation, Giving, Leading, and Compassion).
So, onto the giveaway – for the seventh day on Book Ponderings 12 Days of Christmas we are giving away a copy of Susan May Warren’s book, Sons of Thunder! :-)
